Services

It was part of our mission to set up a complex with necessary service centers as a model institution which could be an inspiration to parents of other localities to initiate movements like ours so that welfare activities would reach the entire intellectually affected in the country in due course

It is worth mentioning and a matter of great pride for us that National Trust for welfare of persons with Mental Retardation, Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Multiple Disabilities, New Delhi(Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment,Government of India) has identified Mithram as one of the four model institutions in this field in India.

At present the society provides service in various fields through

  1. Residential Care Home.
  2. Special School.
  3. Vocational Training and Sheltered Employment.
  4. Physiotherapy Centre.
  5. Parents Counseling Centre.
  6. Awareness Classes for Parents,Siblings and Relatives.
  7. Seminars and Workshops for Teachers and Service Personnels.etc.

RESIDENTIAL CARE HOMES

There are two Residential Care Homes one each for men and women. At present 38 persons are utilizing the services of care homes for prolonged stay and respite care. The residents are well cared and are enrolled in Mithram Special School and they have a fully engaged routine.

SPECIAL SCHOOL, SAKSHARATHA MISSION, COMPUTER TRAINING

The mentally challenged are taught according to their individual capacities. More stress is given in making these persons capable to lead their life independently or with minimum dependence. We have our own school bus. We have a playground and facilities for physiotherapy, yoga, exercise etc.

Basic education under Sakharatha Mission is provided at Mithram. Computer Literacy is also imparted to selected persons.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND SHELTERED EMPLOYMENT

The Vocational Training and Sheltered Employment forms part of the Rehabilitation activities of Mithram. Training in vocational activities is given in such a way that the potential in them is taken out in the best possible manner. This will help in building up their confidence and create work culture, a sense of dignity and self esteem in them. They are trained in some useful and productive activities such as branded notebook making, candle making, paper carry bags and envelop making, soaps and detergent making, poultry and chicken farm, making of food products, agriculture and organic forming, etc.

PHYSIO AND HYDRO THERAPY AND YOGA CENTRE

Physiotherapy plays a very important role in the case of disabled persons to improve their co-ordination,muscular improvement and moveability. The physiotherapy wing is furnished with the basic physio –equipments and some modern equipments in order to impart effective treatment to the beneficiaries. We have a separate physiotherapy centre in charge of a physiotherapist. The disabilities are identified and treated effectively.

PARENTS AWARENESS & COUNSELING

The success of the projects depends on the co-operation and involvement of the parents, siblings and relatives of the mentally challenged persons. So counseling them is very important because they should accept the special children in its true sense. They should be aware of their capabilities and inabilities. Therefore they should be given awareness, courage and support to pay their share for the inclusion of these children in the society. They should know the importance of giving special education and vocational training to their children and how important it is to empower them to minimize their dependence. For this they should be given proper counseling. Mithram provides awareness programmes and counselling for parents.

CLOSE WATCH ON HEALTH AND EDUCATION OF BENEFICIARIES

Periodic medical check up for beneficiaries is done and clinical assessment to each person is made by the consultant medical professionals. We participate in workshops organized by other institutions and are always keen on updating the developments in the field. We participate in all sports and cultural competitions and programmes. All beneficiaries are taken for excursion every year and to movies and for outing occasionally. We observe World Disabled Day.
